Ultrasonic sensors enable non-contact detection of all types of objects, regardless of color and transparency.
Ultrasonic sensors enable a non-contact detection of objects, regardless of their shape and state of aggregation (solid, liquid, powdery, pasty...).
Thanks to the use of ultrasonic technology, larger switching distances can be achieved. The XXV18 series with fixed switching distance allows detection up to 50mm with PNP or NPN output.
Sound waves
Functional Principle
The principle of ultrasonic sensors is based on the time measurement between the moment of transmission of a sound wave (pressure wave) and the moment of reception of its echo (reflected sound wave). Excited by the high-voltage generator (1), the ultrasonic transducer (transmitter-receiver) (2) generates an ultrasonic signal (between 200 and 500 kHz, depending on the device) which propagates at the speed of sound in the environment. If the ultrasonic wave hits an object, it is reflected (echo) and sent back to the transducer. A microprocessor (3) analyses the received signal and measures the time between the transmitted signal and the echo by comparing the measured time with the preset times or times stored by teach-in, and controls the output stage (4). The output stage controls a transistor output (PNP or NPN), which corresponds to a normally open NO contact or a normally closed NC contact (object present).
The ultrasonic sensors consist of 1 a high voltage generator 2 a piezoelectrically driven ultrasonic transducer 3 a signal processing stage 4 an output stage
