Turbidity in water treatment

Monitoring turbidity during water treatment

The OPAX-1000 turbidity sensor can be used in a variety of ways. Many customers use the OPAX-1000 to test the turbidity of product packaging and containers. Another important function of this sensor is to monitor turbidity in water treatment applications.

Turbidity measurement water

Turbidity refers to the degree of impurities or foreign particles in a liquid. Visibly, turbidity is noticeable by varying degrees of cloudiness, with higher turbidity resulting in a thicker, cloudier result. It is an important indicator of water quality and therefore of great importance for water treatment.

There are a number of common terms and measurements for turbidity, including Formazin Turbidity Units (FTU), Formazin Nephelometric Units (FNU) and Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU). The OPAX makes it easy to use our unique two-digit relative turbidity unit system, which provides the user with a quickly recognizable reading from 0 to 99. In this way, an intuitive numerical output can be used that matches a detection level or threshold for sample fluid purity, or in other words, samples are eliminated if excessive turbidity is present. This not only identifies potentially defective end products, but also signals times when an entire system or process needs to be adjusted due to a series of samples registering below the minimum threshold.

The OPAX provides real-time quality control and accurate, consistent measurements. At a distance of up to 300 mm and with three possible light intensities, the sensor shoots its light at the liquid sample and measures the amount of light that is reflected back. When more light is reflected, more particles are present and turbidity is higher. Detection limits and other measurements must also take into account that different particles may reflect different amounts of light or settle faster.

Ultimately, the OPAX provides accurate, real-time results that provide instant insight and quick, easy, and accurate detection.

If you work with water treatment applications or similar manufacturing or industrial processes, the OPAX may be just the solution you've been looking for.
